Coffee: Coveted Worldwide

The coffee market is growing rapidly. According to the International Coffee Organization (ICO), consumption has more than doubled over the past 25 years. Each German drinks an average of 162 liters of coffee per year - or in other words, almost two cups a day. But this is nothing compared to the Scandinavians.

The Finns enjoy twice that amount and are therefore the European leaders, followed by the Swedes. No question: Europe still has the highest level of coffee consumption. Approximately 50 million 60 kg bags were consumed in Europe according to the International Coffee Organization (ICO) 2015. The second is followed by Asia and Oceania with around 33 million bags.

Coffee is consumed differently today than it was a few years ago – coffee shops, highly professional baristas, local private roasting houses and the introduction of capsule coffee makers means that coffee has become a hip lifestyle drink today. Due to changing conditions in cultivation and production, exceptional coffee varieties have emerged over the past few years, which offer ample variety for connoisseurs and are only produced in small quantities. Our services are tailored to these changes: we offer an exclusive service around micro lots and the necessary capacities for containerized lots.

However large the selection of exquisite coffee varieties may be, they are almost always one of two main types: almost 99% of the world's coffee production is based on the cultivation of Coffea arabica (Arabica) and Coffea robusta (Robusta). While Brazil is the most important cultivation site for Arabica beans, Vietnam provides the largest quantity of Robusta for the world market. Both countries now bring the raw material onto the market all year round. As usual we are prepared, with vessels traveling twice per week to Brazil and Vietnam.
