Local Information
The Republic of Congo, also called Congo-Brazzaville, is a country in Central Africa bordered by Cameroon and Central African Republic in the North, Democratic Republic of Congo in East, Gabon in West and Angola in South, which offers trade opportunities through the sea and with a French colonial heritage and many natural attractions. Its capital Brazzaville faces Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), on the other side of the Congo River. Hapag Lloyd office is located in Pointe-Noire, the economic capital of the Republic of Congo, located in the extreme south of the country. Also called Ponton La Belle or Njinji (the Ndjindji spelling follows French spelling standards) and located in the west of Africa, on the Atlantic coast, the city constitutes the natural outlet of a major communication axis between Central Africa and international waters; as such, it represents for the Republic of Congo an economic lung fueled by the activity of the Djeno oil terminal and its deep-water port. It is known for its beaches; the city's railway station is the terminus of the Congo-Ocean railway line, dating from French colonization. Nearby, dense tropical forest surrounds the impressive red cliffs of the Diosso Gorge. North of the city, the Conkouati-Douli National Park is home to an abundant fauna and has a diverse territory, with lagoons, mangroves and savannah.
