Kenya – New Documentation Regulation for Imports

The Kenya Revenue Authority has issued a notice to all shipping lines, agents and importers on the November 2, 2018 providing notice of new consignee information requirements effective as from November 30, 2018 (Manifest submission date).

This is to notify you that effective November 30, 2018, containers destined to Kenya through the Port of Mombasa and eligible to local clearance, shall be required to have the full details of the consignee in each Bill of Lading and Manifest that is submitted to the Kenya Revenue Authority as a prerequisite for approval.

The details required shall be:

  • Consignee name
  • Mailing address as per Tax Identification Number (PIN)
  • Email address
  • Mobile number

In cases where the consignee is "To Order", the notifying party or a bank is the contact entity, the same contact details should be included.

The Kenya Revenue Authority advises that it is important that there is a full declaration of cargo owners and their details in the exchange of manifest data information. This is critical and beneficial to importers for successful discharge and clearance of their cargo.
