The Ship Operation Officer is holding the nautical and the engine certificate of competency. He/she takes over either the engine or the nautical part or both of them. As an Engineer of the Watch he/she is for example responsible for a safe sea and harbour engine room watch operation. He/she has to assist at engine room duties during manoeuvring under Chief Engineer´s instruction.

The Electrician Engineer is responsible for carrying out repairs and maintenance on electrical machinery and systems, equipment and installations. This also includes the communication and navigational equipment, automatic ship´s steering and controlling systems on board the entire vessel.
Payment for these jobs on board according to current HTV-See (Heuertarifvertrag-See = Full German social security contributions, remuneration according to the German seaman's wage agreement).
