Dheeraj Bhatia was born on 13 October 1973 in New Delhi, India.

Dheeraj started his career in the maritime industry 30 years ago and has seen the industry from both sides of a port. Starting as a Mariner, he has steadily progressed through various roles.

Over the years, he has held key management positions with renowned companies in Asia, the Middle East, Africa and North America, contributing significantly to their growth and success. Under Dheeraj's leadership, companies have achieved remarkable results in terms of market expansion, revenue growth and operational efficiency. His visionary approach to strategic planning has been instrumental in positioning the organisations as industry leaders, always one step ahead of the competition.

Dheeraj joined Hapag-Lloyd as Managing Director and initially headed the Area India. Since 2018, he has been based in Dubai as Senior Managing Director of Region Middle East, Indian Subcontinent and Africa. He is also a member of Hapag-Lloyd's Executive Committee.

Dheeraj Bhatia was appointed member of the executive board of Hapag-Lloyd AG in January 2024. He has also been appointed CEO of the Rotterdam-based Hapag-Lloyd Terminal Holding, which bundles Hapag-Lloyd AG's infrastructure holdings.
